The hospital is responsible for ensuring all food is prepared according to (HACCP) Standards. Therefore, we request pre-prepared food is not brought in for your consumption. Special diets for clinical, personal or religious reasons may be arranged in consultation with the dietitian. On your initial arrival you will be provided with an available meal from the daily menu and receive a menu to complete for the following day.
Hairdresser
A hairdresser attends the hospital and appointments can be made through the ward or hospital volunteers. A price guide may also be obtained from the volunteers if required.
Coffee/Tea Making Facilities
There is a small kitchenette located near the junction of the East and North Wards, just inside East Ward for you and your visitors to utilise. Please ask a staff member if you are unsure of its location.
Taxi
Ward/reception staff will arrange for taxi transport for both inpatient and day patients of the hospital. If your visitors require a taxi there is a free taxi phone located in the front of the hospital, in the hallway just past the front reception.
Mail
Mail is picked up from the hospital post office box each morning and distributed accordingly. As the post office now charges for re-direction, any mail which arrives after your discharge will be returned to sender where possible.
Clothes
You will need night attire, toiletries, casual comfortable daywear (dressing in normal clothing is part of rehabilitation) and your usual footwear. You may also require a pair of bathers for hydrotherapy.
Valuable Items
Please do not bring anything of value to the hospital such as large amounts of money, jewellery or credit cards.
If you do have items of value with you, they may be stored in the valuables drawer of the room locker; items should be small amounts of money (less than $20) non-cash associated cards etc. Please remember to always keep this drawer locked if utilised. Return of key to drawer on discharge is appreciated. There is also a safe located at reception which is to be used for anything you deem as valuable (cash greater than $20, credit cards, jewellery that you are not wearing, etc). Please discuss with nursing staff if required. Please secure and label all belongings, as the hospital does not accept responsibility for their loss or damage.
Laundry
You are requested to make your own arrangements for the washing of your personal clothing. If you are unable to make your own arrangements a private laundry service may be arranged through the hospital at your cost.
Smoking
In the interests of promoting good health and fire safety, Calvary Central Districts Hospital is a non-smoking hospital. No smoking is permitted in the hospital grounds including outside the main entrance. Visitors will need to leave the hospital grounds to smoke. It would be appreciated if you convey this information to your visitors.
Electrical Items
Should you wish to bring electrical items such as a hair dryer or electric shaver, please notify the nursing staff and they will arrange a safety check by the maintenance department. Please note that the hospital has a hair dryer available for patient use.
Televisions
North and East Ward have different television systems.
North Ward Televisions are controlled through the control/speaker located at the bedside.
East Ward Televisions are controlled through the remote control located at the bedside. If you require volume to be at a high level you will be required to utilise an earpiece in order not to disturb your neighbouring patients. Please ask a member of the East Ward nursing staff for an earpiece if required.
Radios
There are no in built radios within the rooms; portable radios are available upon request from the hospitality services manager.
Air Conditioning
North and East ward air-conditioning units operate slightly differently. If the set temperature is not comfortable for you, please request nursing staff to alter to a more suitable level.
